“We Are Crown Heights” Winter Warmer & Ice Cream Social

Sunday, January 31, 3:00-5:00pm
Brooklyn Bell’s The Local, 843 Classon Ave

Join us for an ice cream (and hot soup!) social, hosted by The Free Portrait Project: Crown Heights. The Free Portrait Project is creating a portrait of Crown Heights through its people. For an entire year, artist Rusty Zimmerman is painting over 200 oil portraits of his Crown Heights neighbors, and giving them away for free. He’s getting to know his neighbors, revolutionizing portraiture (something traditionally reserved for the wealthy few), and building community along the way.

See some of the “We Are Crown Heights” portraits on display, enjoy live music by Amos Rose and Everything Forever, and share your Crown Heights stories in a story circle – led by us!

FREE event, with free ice cream for the first 25 people, and drinks and kosher fare available by donation.

Brooklyn Bell’s The Local is a Ma & Pa shop and home to delicious, old school, handcrafted ice cream. The shop is located at 843 Classon Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. It is steps from the 2,3 train to EasternParkway/Brooklyn Museum, the 2,3,4,5 to Franklin Ave, and the S to Botanic Garden.

The Free Portrait Project is sponsored by the Brooklyn Arts Council, and the Ice Cream Social is supported by the Crow Hill Community Association.
